What is the difference between dermaplaning vs oilplaning:
Dermaplaning is a “manual exfoliation” procedure that gets rid of dirt and vellus hair, better known as “peach fuzz.” The procedure involves makes use of a medical-grade surgical blade in short strokes at a 45 degree angle to remove the surface layer of dead skin, debris and hair. The blade is being held at a precise angle and the experienced technician uses light, feathering strokes, so there is no piercing or scratching of the skin. Oilplaning AKA “wet dermaplaning” is a variation of dermaplaning wherin the therapist uses organic facial oils on the skin while dermaplaning. It is more comfortable for the client as the blade runs smoother on the skin. The use of oil reduces the stinging or over-sensitization that conventional dermaplaning may cause. While also adding more hydration to the skin during the process.
Conventional dermaplaning is great for those with oily skin, but for others with more dry skin, oilplaning is a more suitable option. Both treatments are completely pain free and non-invasive.
How often should I dermaplan?
The process of skin cell rejuvenation usually takes about a month, therefore clients are recommended to wait four to six weeks between treatments. The built up dead skin cells and debris which forms over this period of time is removed from your skin in every session.
Is dermaplaning the same as shaving?
The technique may look similar to shaving, but it is much more effective because the blade being used is able to get right against the top layer of skin.
Will my hair grow back faster or thicker?
There is no need to worry about the hair growing back darker, faster or thicker – dermaplaning targets the vellus hair (peach fuzz) that grows back the same size and color.
